GOODS AND SERVICES TAX (GST) ESSENTIALS FOR CONSUMERS
GST is a tax on local consumption of goods and services
and importation of goods. All goods and services are subject to GST except the sale
and lease of residential properties and certain financial services.
GST is paid when you purchase goods and services from GST-registered traders, and
when you import goods into Singapore. Singapore Customs will collect the GST levied
on importation of goods.
To check if a business is registered for GST, you can visit IRAS' website
to access the register of GST-registered businesses.
GST-registered businesses are required to show and quote GST-inclusive prices on
all prices displayed, advertised, published or quoted. The only exceptions are hotels
and restaurants. They are allowed to display GST-exclusive prices for the goods
and services that are subject to CESS and service charge.
GST-registered businesses are required to issue tax invoices and/or receipts for
all their sales transactions. They are also required to reflect their GST registration
number and the total amount, including the GST payable on the tax invoices and receipts.
For more information on GST, you can visit IRAS' website,
